His and her 10 things can’t leave home without

Obviously we carry our money, passports and other relevant docs on our trip, but what kit has proven to be mine and Gs essentials since we left the UK?

Me first!

1) Black maxi dress:

I can’t carry many clothes so have no real dressy items. My long black dress is a practical colour that can be worn simply by day with flip flops but dressed up with jewellery and sandals for the evening. The length is great too for countries that request you to cover up and to keep the Mosquitos at bay.

2) My makeup essentials; mascara, brow pencil and lipgloss: Its the one thing to keep me feeling human and girlie when I’m sharing my bedroom with cockroaches and wearing the same pair of knickers 5 days in a row. I even survived 2 months without a hairbrush!

3) Face wipes:

In Nepal the water was freezing cold and not very inviting so these saved me from jumping out of my skin every morning and have kept me clean in the heat and humidity of Asia as well as a quick freshen up after long transits.

4) Sun cream: Its doubling up as protection from the sun and as an all over body moisturiser!

5) Sleeping bag:

As mentioned before, we sometimes share our rooms with natures creepiest of crawlies as well as Mosquitos not to mention not the cleanest bed linen. My sleeping bag protects me from all these things and doubles up as a pillow when the sheets are ok but the pillows aren’t!

G’s turn…

1) Fishing rod:

To help cure his boredom when I’m sunning myself on the beach.

2) Knife: Suprisingly handy for everything from cutting up pineapple and mending my broken flip flops, to the reasons G gives for keeping it at hand such as fending of mountain lions and making shelter when we are stranded in the wilderness…

3) Sporks: Hmmm not entirely sure why this has made Gs top 5 as we tend to use cutlery that the food place provides or our hands… I think he just likes them?

4) Toothbrush: Best way to feel fresher in an instant!

5) Sleeping mat:

The beds have been bearable for me so far but G being a precious soul couldn’t have made it without his air sprung ground mat. Again though I think he’s still excited more about trying to get it smaller each time he packs it away!
