If staying in or around Kuta and Seminyak it’s easy to get disheartened about Bali and it’s beaches. They are often crowded and not always the cleanest. But they are city beaches in the heart of the tourist district. In any country its best to explore past the main tourist hubs if you’re looking for isolated slices of paradise. These are the beautiful beaches we found away from the bustling towns, well worth the trip out!
Green bowl beach, South Kuta:
As with many of the beaches in South Kuta there are lots of steps down to this beautiful small cove and also a dubious fee to enter the car park but we didn’t mind. The beach itself was so stunning with clear blue sea and even a couple of seperate caves for shade on hot days and shelter on rainy ones. Perfect for a full day bali beach sesh!
Nyang Nyang, South Kuta:
We couldn’t bear the hike down the hundreds of steps and across a field to this beach but the view from the top was simply stunning and so quiet you could hear the waves crashing. On a sunny day this long stretch of deserted white sand would definetly be worth exploring but we enjoyed the view with a cuddle and a Bintang instead!
Melasti, South Kuta:

Melasti was easy to get to as there is parking right next to the beach but we were a little disappointed to find that the stunning waterfall from the pictures online is only visible on rainy days. We arrived in wet season and were surprised that even though the roads were flooded there was no waterfall. The beach itself is clean and quiet so we still enjoyed a couple of chilled hours there.
Gunung Payung, South Kuta:

Again there is a lot of steps down to this one but we were pleasantly surprised to find a deserted beach with only a couple of fisherman. The beach promises to be good for snorkelling but it was far too choppy to even swim in let alone snorkel the day that we visited so we enjoyed watching the locals instead.
Amed/ Soka beach, East Bali:

The beaches themselves in Amed may not look terribly inviting but just beyond the sand lay perfect opportunities for snorkelling, fishing and swimming. The surrounding area is also very pretty with mountains and waterfalls plus the local restaurants have the most scrummy seafood I think of the whole island.
Lovina beach, North Bali:

So we never actually made it all the way to Lovina beach… we were staying in Ubud and had already spent over 20 days exploring the many mountains on the island by the time we tried to reach the north coast. Along the way there are many more steep roads and our poor little scooter just couldn’t make it after the toll we had already put it through. It still made the list though as I’m assured that many dolphins can be seen off the coast at sunrise at around 6am which is pretty awesome and worth the trip (just not on an old little scooter from Ubud!).
If you know of any other pretty beaches on Bali mainland that should have made my list please let me know! ❤️
