We loved every place we visited in Sri Lanka and it really seemed to have it all!
Transport:
The public bus has to be the best way to experience Sri Lanka! They are very frequent and although you may struggle for a seat if you’re male, they are so much fun with the drivers choice of loud music and religious decorations. They are also incredibly cheap. You can hire drivers for your whole stay but this was to costly an option for us. Sri Lanka also has a very old train line that again was just an amazing experience and offered such beautiful scenery as it chugs very slowly through the jungles and tea plantations the country is famous for.
Currency and costs:
Sri Lanka use the Sri Lankan Rupee. Exchange rate is around 198 LKR to £1.
As a couple staying in private, double room homestays eating 3 meals out a day our daily budget was £
Food:
The food in Sri Lanka is beautiful and we really didn’t struggle for choice. A grand breakfast, small lunch and huge feast for dinner is the way to go with homestay hosts continuously filling up dishes as they empty!
Visas:
An online ETA visa should be obtained before you travel to Sri Lanka which will give you 30 days to explore for a cost of $20.
